The drama is getting real as we have our last music-only rehearsal and last two major filming sessions this weekend. Next week, our cast is heading into our Sitzprobe, staging rehearsals, and our first outreach event at local retirement community Canterbury Woods. Meanwhile, our fearless director continues to work hard on editing everything we’ve filmed together to truly bring this piece to life. Below are some behind the scenes shots from last weekend, featuring an intense scene between Pamina and Sarastro as well as some haunting shots of Pamina and Papageno under stark lighting. Don’t wait! Get your tickets today!!!
Our team is working so hard to bring Buffalo a fresh and funny Magic Flute! Even amidst multiple rough winter storms, we have been rehearsing and filming several days a week for several hours at a time since the new year. Luckily, we are also having lots of laughs along the way. Above pictured behind-the-scenes moments:
Papageno and Tamino with their magical instruments of conspicuously different sizes
Director Alex Huddleston being wheeled around in a wheelchair by Assistant Director Zane Merritt (for cinematic purposes, of course!)
A very evil family photo with Monostatos, the Queen of the Night, and the Three Ladies
Evil hand gestures!
A very polio Pamina, helping out on the sidelines
The Three Spirits cheerfully floating away from our confused heroes
Priests Will Botsford, Phil Nicolai, Riley Nahlik, Brad Lessen, Ky VerHoef, and Leo Mitchell processing us into the start of filming for Sotto Voce’s The Magic Flute!

This past weekend, our production of W.A. Mozart’s The Magic Flute got off to a ceremonial start! After an impressive first rehearsal with our Three Spirits (Rosa Vu, Jamie Gangemi, and Erin Alexander) and Pamina (Jessie Downs), as well as a fun coaching with our Monostatos (Shaun Doyle), the entire cast gathered for a table read of Alex Huddleston’s adapted screenplay. Laughter abounded as we read through his fresh new take on a classic tale. The very next day, our fabulous director and crew filmed the opening scene of the second act – featuring our regal Sarastro (Tim Flynn) and his Priests (Leo Mitchell, Riley Nahlik, Brad Lessen, Phil Nicolai, Ky VerHoef, Alexander Chervyavsky, and Will Botsford) along with our angsty Tamino (Tyler Huk). This weekend, we are gearing up for more music rehearsals and filming. Stay tuned for more updates as this magical production continues to unfold!
